After almost a year and a half of dormancy, I have decided it is time to get back and start taking care of my blog once more. It has been a pretty hectic last year with a lot of things happening that I will into more detail as I blog more. As a quick summary this past year included me breaking up with a person I had been with 6 years, having IIT steal all the money from our Information Retrieval Lab(thus delaying my Ph.D. for now), starting work at a new startup, having that startup fail to get funding, having my dad break his back and ankle in an ATV accident, having a childhood friend die young, having my uncle die of cancer, and last but not least, getting into my own ATV accident during Christmas and damaging my eye fairly significantly.
With that said, this coming year looks much better. My eye has almost fully recovered, I have a new job as an engineer at Orbitz, my advisor, Ophir Frieder, has taken a chair position at Georgetown as head of the CS department and tasked with starting a full Ph.D. program there! Most importantly, my cats are still awesome.
Also important, I have been doing some interesting things with Linux and technology. I have started running this past year and invested in a Garmin 305 GPS watch, which I have successfully gotten to work with Linux. I plan on writing a few more utilities to make it really usable. I have also been continuing photography and there has been a lot of changes in the past year and a half with what is available for software on Linux for photography. Also, I now am the proud owner of an HTC Hero, so plan to see some posts on programming with Android. Those are just a few of the things I plan on talking about in the coming months, so stay tuned!
P.S. I still love beer!
